Jumping from the gates well, jockey Craig Williams allowed Holler to stride forward and take an ideal position in running on the heels of early leader Rebel Dane injected plenty of early pace into the Australia Stakes.

Rounding onto the final straight with a clear racing line, Williams immediately asked the colt for an extra effort, who responded with a scintillating turn of foot to find the fore of the field and pull clear; surviving a late charge for an impressive Churchill Dancer.

Assistant trainer for Godolphin in Melbourne, David Charles was thrilled with Holler’s first-up performance to win the 2016 Australia Stakes but revealed Autumn Carnival plans are yet to be set in stone for the son of Commands.

“It’s fantastic, he’s made the progress from the spring to the autumn, and it’s an exciting time ahead,” Charles said.

“I don’t really know (where he will go). That’s John’s decision, but a nice one to have.

“John spoke to Craig this morning, and they thought that’s how the race would probably pan out (on pace).

“And Craig had a great ride, and the horse is going extremely well.”

Williams delivered a typically superb performance aboard Holler for success in the 2016 Australia Stakes and credited regular rider James McDonald’s previous efforts as pivotal in the win.

“He’s a beautiful looking horse, moves really well, gives himself every opportunity when he finds that forward position, and very solid,” Williams said after the race.

“I saw when James won on him here he was really solid and forceful with the horse.

“John said to trust the horse, he’s a good galloper and he’s ready.

“So I was able to do that. I gave him a kick at the top of the straight, and at this level, he did a really good job to hold off a lot of Group 1 horses behind him.

“For a three-year-old to beat the older horses at weight-for-age, says he’s in for a nice summer-autumn preparation.”
