January 17th, 2017

McEvoy has a 100% strike rate aboard the Iffraaj entire; having been in the saddle when he stormed home to record a dominant win in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington Racecourse during the spring of 2015.

Veteran trainer Murray Baker is thrilled to have confirmed the formed hoop’s services for the 2017 Australia Stakes, but concedes that the race will probably prove too short for Turn Me Loose to figure as a legitimate winning chance first-up.

“He (McEvoy) won the Emirates on him so he knows him well,” Baker told nzracing.co.

“It’s only 1200 metres and it will be too short for him. He always needs a race to get him going. The main aims are the Orr Stakes and the Futurity Stakes, which he won last year.

“I’ve got to say that we are thrilled with the way the horse is going.”

Turn Me Loose has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his entire racing career so far and will return to racing in 2017 with a positive record of seven wins and four minors through only seventeen starts.

Breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the 2014 edition of the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m), debuted in Australia during the 2015 Spring Carnival for a close second in the Listed Paris Lane Stakes (1400m) before returning to winning form in the Listed Seymour Cup (1600m).

Repeating the dose in the Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m) a fortnight prior to winning the Emirates Stakes, Turn Me Loose resumed last autumn for fourth in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) before storming home to win the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m).

While unable to make anything of an impact through his four most recent starts, Baker is confident that Turn Me Loose is building towards his best form ahead of the 2017 Autumn Carnival.
